Watch: Large waves crash along Maine coast, swamp vehicles, as nor’easter passes
WELLS, Maine —
A powerful nor’easter brushed Maine on Sunday, bringing rain, some wind, and big surf. Waves were forecast to be between 7 and 12 feet.
At high tide just before 1 p.m., large waves were crashing over the seawall along Webhannet Drive in Wells. Maine’s Total Weather’s Emily Pike reported seeing rocks tossed and moved and the road was covered in debris. She also reported seeing sea foam. At high tide, Pike said wind gusts were around 25 miles per hour in Wells.

Several large waves crashed onto the cars streaming past, filled with people trying to check out the wave action.
There was standing water on the road, and while it did not appear to be deterring drivers, people are reminded to never drive through a flooded road.
Similar conditions were reported at many places along the Maine coast, and conditions in southern New England were even more intense.
Surf has been pounding the Maine coast all weekend. On Saturday, a large wave at Middle Beach in Kennebunk damaged a car.
A flood advisory is up for the Maine coast until early Monday morning, after the next high tide overnight Sunday into Monday.
In Saco, Saco Public Works temporarily closed the corner of Main and North avenues near Camp Ellis on Sunday afternoon due to safety concerns.
Central Maine Power has restored power to tens of thousands of customers this weekend as a result of the storm.
Waves weren’t the only concern. A viewer shared a picture from York where a large tree came down, narrowly missing a home and a car on Saturday night.
