Authorities have identified all six people who died in an explosion at an Airbnb apartment in Plaka, Athens, according to local media reports.
Among the victims were two American couples who had travelled to Greece for a holiday.
Florin Hoxha and his wife, Erisa Cani, had recently married and travelled to Greece for their honeymoon. Cani was pregnant, according to media reports.
Florin’s sister, Florida Hoxha, had also travelled to Greece with her husband, Ian Alexander Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick had booked the Airbnb apartment on Lysikratous Street in Plaka.
The two couples were due to check out of the apartment at 11am and board a flight to the United States at 4pm. They were sleeping when the explosion occurred at around 7:30am.
The relatives of the victims have travelled to Athens as authorities completed the identification process. The cousin of Florin and Florida Hoxha told Greek media that their parents had also arrived in the Greek capital to provide DNA samples.
“The embassy informed us 12 hours after the explosion. I’m trying to stay strong,” the cousin said, according to Newsit.
He added that the victims’ relatives remained in shock following the deaths.
Authorities also identified the elderly couple who lived on the second floor of the building, according to reports. They were 78-year-old Greek woman Athina Papareskou and her 77-year-old British husband, Edmond Hingst.
The identification of all six victims completes the process of establishing the identities of those who died in the Athens explosion.
