A 63-year-old woman was found dead in Central Park Sunday morning with trauma to her head, according to the NYPD.
Police said they responded to a 911 call of an unconscious person in the area of the park near East Drive and East 74th Street at around 9:43 a.m. When emergency medical services arrived, they pronounced the woman dead on the scene.
Later Sunday evening, police arrested 36-year-old Jonathan Robles and charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Records show Robles resides at a homeless shelter near Hudson Yards.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The NYPD is yet to share how exactly the woman was killed. Her identity hasn’t been released pending notification of her family.
