With two outrageous decisions, the Israeli government has undermined basic rights guaranteed to both Arab citizens of Israel and Jews in the diaspora
Over the past week, Israel’s government has twice betrayed the country’s Declaration of Independence. First it attacked the principle that Israel “will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its citizens irrespective of religion or race.” As if that weren’t bad enough, it also attacked the promise that “the state of Israel will be open for Jewish immigration,” which is at the very heart of the Zionist idea.
