The sign’s disappearance last Friday came just two days after Ottawa city councillors voted to rename the street, which was named after Trump 20 years ago, before he became president.
River ward Coun. Riley Brockington fronted the motion to change the name earlier this month, saying the American president doesn’t deserve the honour in light of his repeated threats to Canada.
Ottawa’s Central Park area features other New York City-themed names such as Bloomingdale Street and Staten Way. Among other considerations, a working group of residents will be asked to decide if the new street name should stick to that theme.
