The Montreal Alouettes have acquired defensive lineman Julian Howsare from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 3DownNation reported on Tuesday. The move has since been confirmed by both teams.
Hamilton acquired a fifth-round pick in the 2027 CFL Draft in exchange for Howsare, who was sent to Montreal alongside a seventh-round pick in the 2027 CFL Draft.
The 34-year-old has recorded 32 defensive tackles, one tackle for loss, four sacks, and three pass knockdowns over 15 games this season.

“We just acquired an all-star player who is capable of giving opposing offences a hard time,” said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia in a statement.
“Julian knows the league, and we are extremely pleased to have acquired his services. This type of player will be valuable to us in the coming weeks as we enter the final stretch of the season.”
The native of Altoona, Pa. had a career-year in 2025 when he was named All-CFL and the East Division’s nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player. He made 43 defensive tackles, 13 sacks, seven pass knockdowns, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception, and one touchdown.
Over 133 career regular-season CFL games as a member of the Tiger-Cats and Calgary Stampeders, Howsare has tallied 271 defensive tackles, six special teams tackles, 49 sacks, 13 pass knockdowns, five forced fumbles, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown.
“Julian Howsare has meant a great deal to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, both as a player and as a person,” said Tiger-Cats president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer.
“Across two stints with our organization, Julian gave us everything we asked of him and more, and was a true professional in every sense of the word. We have tremendous respect for Julian and know he’s going to do great things in his next chapter. Thank you, Julian.”
On Monday, the defender was identified by 3DownNation as one of five players who could be a potential target at the trade deadline.
The CFL’s trade deadline is set for Wednesday at 4:59 p.m. EDT.
The Montreal Alouettes (11-3) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-7) on Saturday, October 3 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Blue Bombers are coming off a tight loss to the Argonauts, while the Alouettes were on bye.
