Conservative radio host Megyn Kelly was awed by journalist Mark Halperin’s dismal outlook for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections, calling the potential blue wave a “tidal wave now.”
Halperin’s appearance on Kelly’s show comes a week after he published a first-person piece in the Daily Mail where he cited “both MAGA-ville” and more “traditional conservative” sources saying things are looking grim for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
The item, which predicted a blue wave, even struck a nerve with former Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita, who wrote on social media that Halperin is “full of shit.”
“There are races that they weren’t thinking would be in play that are now in play. And ever since I wrote it, and ever since Chris posted what he posted, I’ve said, ‘If you’re a Republican strategist and you agree with Chris LaCivita and you disagree with my reporting and you’re working on any races, contact me,’” Halperin told Kelly on Monday.
Halperin said he’s up to at least 45 Republican sources who have reached out to him and “said one of two things: either my reporting is spot on, Republicans are facing a tough situation, or about half of those 45 have said, you’ve actually understated the case. The problem’s bigger than your sources so far have described.”
“Oh, my Lord,” a shocked Kelly responded. “Give it to us straight. How bad is it?”
He told Kelly that Democrats could potentially see a net gain of at least 25 House seats and six Senate seats, but that number “could be bigger.”
“Oh, good God,” the radio host interjected, calling his prediction “awful numbers.”
“That’s more than a blue wave. That’s a — we’re tidal wave now,” she continued. “We’re looking at the New Jersey coastline after this three-day nor’easter kind of situation.”
