INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police are searching for a third vehicle involved in a school bus crash this morning that sent two Indiana State Troopers, three adults and eight children to the hospital.
The Warren Township school bus flipped in a crash involving an Indiana State Police pickup truck along Interstate 465 on the east side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported around 10 a.m. Sept. 29 along northbound I-465 near Washington Street, south of I-70.
In a message on Tuesday afternoon, Indiana State Police said they were looking for a minivan that was also involved in the crash. Police say camera footage showed an older blue Honda minivan
The bus rolled onto its side against the median concrete barrier, while the pickup truck suffered heavy front-end damage from hitting the barrier, state police said.
According to police, the van and the bus both tried to merge into a center lane. When the van went around the bus, the bus driver attempted to evade the van and hit the rear of the state police truck. The truck spun into the concrete barrier and the bus slid onto its side. Police do not believe the van made contact with the bus but want to speak to the driver.
A message from MSD of Warren Township to parents and staff obtained by 13News said the crash involved a Creston Intermediate Middle School bus with 24 fifth grade students and three adults on board.
“All 28 individuals are receiving medical evaluation and care. We are contacting the families of the students on the bus directly,” the district said in the message. “We are working with emergency responders and school staff to support everyone involved. We will share another update as soon as we have confirmed information.”

From five cars behind the crash, Matt Ramsey witnessed the entire collision.
He jumped out of his car to help the people inside the bus.
Matt Ramsey said, “We were just having to help them down and get them out of the road. And then someone finally opened the top of the bus. I guess there’s some little escape hatches on top of the bus, and we started pulling kids through there.”
Ramsey recalled the moment right before the bus flipped on its side.
“It was it was pretty wild because it looked like a video game. I’ve never seen a bus move like that,” Ramsey described.
He said the entire situation was surreal, and he was running on adrenaline to help everyone hurt.
Ramsey said, “They were pretty freaked out, to say the least. Most of them were in tears, just in shock. I saw some scrapes. There was like some blood on a couple of them, but they seemed mostly okay. “
Indiana State Police said the bus collided with one of its pickup trucks with two troopers inside.
Sgt. John Perrine said, “It just freezes time. It is gut wrenching when you hear about a school bus rolling over on the interstate, occupied.”
He explained that the bus and truck collided side to side.
“When we have a crash of this magnitude, with injuries involved, with a school bus involved, with a police vehicle involved, we have to make sure that we have all the answers to our questions before we can start moving those vehicle,” Sgt. Perrine said.
Three adults and eight children were taken to Indianapolis hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, ISP said, while the remaining children were taken to a local hospital to be checked out and reunited with their families.
In an update Tuesday afternoon, Indianapolis Fire Department officials said one of the children was transported in serious condition, while the other seven were “stable.”
School officials said in a later update that some students and staff had been released from the hospital, while others remained there.
The two on-duty ISP troopers who were inside the pickup truck were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. IFD described their condition as “stable.”
“The circumstances that led to the crash are still under investigation,” an ISP spokesperson said in a statement.
All lanes of I-465 had reopened in the area by around 1:15 p.m.
