LADSON, S.C. (WCIV) — A woman who owns a home near where law enforcement discovered two people dead has been charged with two counts of homicide by child abuse, according to Charleston County court records.
Law enforcement took Justine Marie May, 31, into custody on Sept. 29, and she waived her bond appearance on Wednesday, Sept. 30. An initial court appearance is currently scheduled for Nov. 20. She will remain in custody for the time being.
The charge of homicide by child abuse carries a 20-year-to-life sentence if found guilty.
Charleston County law enforcement was first called to the scene on Sept. 29 around 1:17 p.m. in the 3200 block of Pinewood Drive for a welfare check. It was then that deputies found two people dead.

Law enforcement then went door-to-door asking neighbors what they had seen or heard throughout the day. Shannon Green, an individual who lives in the area, told News 4 that the neighborhood is generally pretty quiet.
“We really haven’t seen much of anything,” she said. “I learned about the incident when I was scrolling social media earlier. I looked out the back window and saw a bunch of blue lights.”
On social media, May would frequently post ramblings about her family, including private text message correspondence where she would claim the South Carolina Department of Social Services was being called to her door “every week” along with the “mental health crisis people.”
“I just find it laughable that they all claim to know what’s going on with me when they quite literally don’t,” May wrote on social media on Sept. 13. “They’re all upset that I cut them off for harassing me. And I’ll keep going if I feel the need to.”
In that same post, she claims her mom called the police and told them, “I’m Nyx the goddess of night.”
