A Quebec Superior Court judge came down hard on the cops, ambulance technicians and a doctor who incorrectly assumed a woman’s death in a Montreal senior’s residence was an accident while sentencing the killer on Thursday.

Justice Hélène Di Salvo made the comments at the Montreal courthouse during a sentence hearing for Élise Quenneville-Proulx. The 38-year-woman received an 18-year prison term for her fatal attack on 81-year-old Rolande Ducharme, a woman she did not know.

The victim was killed on Oct. 20, 2022, inside Cité des retraités NDF, a seniors’ residence on de Pontoise St. in the Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie borough.
