Brighton star is sixth-oldest player to win award after producing five goal involvements in September

Pascal Gross has won September’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month after one of the finest spells of his career.

The 35-year-old claims the award for the first time after recording five of his joint league-leading six goal involvements in September, scoring twice and assisting three times.

Gross is the sixth-oldest player to win Player of the Month, behind Stuart Pearce and Teddy Sheringham – aged 38 – Cristiano Ronaldo – who last won it at 37 – Gianfranco Zola, a recipient at 36, and Paul Scholes, who was also 35 but was six months older than Gross is now.

Gross began his sensational run with a goal and two assists in Brighton & Hove Albion‘s dominant 5-0 win over Coventry City, before scoring the opening goal against Arsenal and then setting up Chema Andres in the 3-0 success against the champions.

Brighton’s midfielder pipped team-mate Charalampos Kostoulas, Hull City’s Mohamed Belloumi, Leeds United’s Jayden Bogle, Liverpool pair Alexander Isak and Jeremy Jacquet, Brentford’s Kevin Schade and Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo to the award.

Not only does Gross become the first Brighton player to receive the award, he is just the fourth German player to win it in Premier League history, following on from Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane and Jurgen Klinsmann‘s successes.

Gross won after the public’s votes on the EA SPORTS website were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

An excellent September for the Seagulls has been further recognised after Fabian Hurzeler was crowned Barclays Manager of the Month while Lewis Dunk clinched the Goal of the Month award.

It is only the fifth time in Premier League history that a club has won all three awards.
