Timothée Chalamet was missing from his girlfriend Kylie Jenner’s 28th birthday celebration this year, but he still made an effort to make it “special,” a source says.

Chalamet’s Dune 3 filming schedule got in the way of joining the festivities.

Chalamet and Jenner put breakup rumors to rest when they were spotted together on August 19 grabbing coffee in Budapest.

After a flurry of PDA-packed joint appearances (and big relationship milestones) earlier this year, Kylie Jenner surprised fans when she was spotted without boyfriend Timothée Chalamet during her 28th birthday celebration. While the Dune actor’s absence at Jenner’s rustic, arts and crafts-heavy festivities initially sparked breakup rumors, a source says that the couple is going strong—and that Chalamet found a way to make his girlfriend’s 28th birthday feel “special” even from afar.

Unfortunately for the A Complete Unknown star, filming obligations for Dune 3 got in the way of an appearance at the Khy designer’s birthday party. However, a source told Us Weekly that Chalamet worked with Jenner’s friends to ensure that he was still there in spirit. “Timothée went out of his way to make her feel special on her birthday,” the source said, explaining, “He sent gifts, they had a FaceTime call, and he coordinated meaningful gestures with Kylie’s friends that made her feel very special.”

It appears the birthday gesture went over well, as the couple was spotted grabbing a coffee (and taking a photo with fans) in Budapest, Hungary (where Chalamet is filming) on August 19.

Chalamet and Jenner, who were first linked in 2023, have taken their relationship to the next level this year. In addition to packing on the PDA during award show season, they’ve enjoyed several Knicks outings together and made their red carpet debut. Jenner’s birthday celebration is a contrast to last year, when the Wonka star tagged along with Jenner and a “small group of close friends” to the Bahamas for her 27th birthday celebration. At the time, sources shared that the couple was getting more serious.

“It was a nice break for her. She’s incredibly happy with him. She’s never been in love like this before,” the source shared, adding. “He’s great for her. Her family loves him. He’s so discreet and always has her back. He’s very much a gentleman and everything that Kylie deserves.”
