Ben Goodliffe made up for a comical own goal by scoring at the right end as well to help Southend return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at home to Fylde in the National League.
The hosts got off to an ideal start with a goal after just two minutes as Darren Oldaker finished well from a tight angle.
But Fylde were gifted an equaliser 10 minutes later when defender Goodliffe’s wayward back pass caught out goalkeeper Jack Sims and rolled into the net.
Southend responded well, retaking the lead four minutes later courtesy of a Ryan Colclough finish via a post.
Goodliffe made up for his earlier error with the hosts’ third after 51 minutes to seal the three points for the Shrimpers.
