The Parti Québécois requested a meeting with the U.S. State Department in the midst of Canada’s trade war with the United States earlier this year.

In February, the State Department informed its consulates in Quebec that the PQ sought a meeting with State Department officials, according to the U.S. embassy in Ottawa. The meeting, which was scheduled to take place in early March in Washington, was cancelled as the U.S. became embroiled in the Iran war.

“Political party officials visiting Washington often request meetings with State Department officials, and the Department informs the relevant U.S. embassy or consulate as a courtesy. We understand that the Parti Québécois requested this meeting, but it did not take place because the trip was cancelled,” U.S. embassy in Ottawa spokesperson Rebecca Archer-Knepper told The Gazette.
