Ottawa police are seeking witnesses to a fatal hit and run that left a motorcyclist dead Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle near West Hunt Club and Merivale roads just before 6 a.m.
The motorcyclist, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries, police said Friday afternoon.
“The vehicle involved in the collision left the scene before police arrived. Investigators are working to identify the vehicle and driver,” Ottawa police said in a news release.
Investigators are looking for a dark-coloured SUV that may have sustained visible damage to its front bumper and right side.
“Residents, motorists and businesses in the block surrounding the intersection of West Hunt Club Road and Merivale Road are asked to review any available dashcam, surveillance or doorbell camera footage from the time of the collision that may have captured the vehicle or its movements,” police said.
Anyone with footage or information is asked to contact the fatal collision investigation unit at 613-236-122, Ext. 2345. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
The city said around 11:15 a.m. that the roads had reopened.
