Peavy said deputies were already stationed at both ends of the block party when the shooting started.
The sheriff says deputies pushed through panicked crowds to reach victims, even as more gunfire echoed nearby.
“It was a large scene that took everyone we had and then some,” Peavy said.
It is still unclear if any suspects are being sought or in custody, nor is a possible motive for the shooting known.
