A man in his 40s died Saturday after he was struck by a métro at Lionel-Groulx station in Montreal.

The man fell on the tracks, Société de transport de Montréal spokesperson Renaud Martel-Théorêt said in a statement.

“The train wasn’t able to stop before the person could return to the platform,” Martel-Théorêt said.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 10:08 a.m. Saturday, Urgences-santé spokesperson Julie Gaulin said, and found the man with “very critical injuries.”

The STM will “follow the processes to understand the circumstances of the accident,” Martel-Théorêt said.

“The STM would like to remind clients that it’s important not to stand too close to the edge of the platforms and to stay behind the yellow lines on the ground,” he added.
