Liverpool’s hopes of signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak may have just been given a fresh boost. The Reds have been strongly linked with the 25-year-old throughout the summer transfer window, with speculation continuing to swirl around the Sweden international’s future.

Liverpool‘s £110million bid for Isak was turned down by Newcastle at the beginning of August. Since then, rumours have persisted regarding where the striker might ply his trade next season, with the Merseyside club maintaining their interest.

Newcastle have been actively seeking their own striker following Callum Wilson’s departure, reports the Liverpool Echo. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has reportedly emerged as a target for the Magpies, with reports suggesting a £40million offer was turned down by the Bees.

Fresh developments in Newcastle‘s striker hunt could now provide Liverpool with renewed hope of securing Isak further down the line. According to the Express and Star, Newcastle are “pushing” to sign Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wolves would reportedly demand £60million before entertaining any departure for the Norway international. Newcastle are said to be determined to land Strand Larsen as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements.

Whether the Magpies view Strand Larsen as a potential successor to Isak, however, remains unclear. Wolves are reportedly resolute in their desire to keep Strand Larsen, but it’s unclear whether they would entertain a bid from Newcastle.

It’s also uncertain if a move for Strand Larsen would directly impact Isak’s future and a potential transfer to Liverpool. Liverpool have until 1 September to finalise their summer transfer dealings.

The Reds will face off against Newcastle in their next Premier League match on Monday evening. Isak did not feature in the Magpies’ opening fixture of the season agaiinst Aston Villa last weekend.
