MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) — A missing 14-year-old girl from Monterey County has been rescued by Mexican authorities, and her father was arrested, the sheriff’s office said.

The teen is thought to be the mother of the infant, nicknamed “Baby Angelita,” who was found dead on the side of the road in August.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, was the father of the slain newborn.

He faces incest and child sex charges.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said: “Monterey County Sheriff’s Office detectives have worked closely with the FBI and Mexican authorities…During the rescue operation, Sergio Galvez Perez was arrested after he was found in possession of narcotics. Mexican authorities are aware of the pending charges against him in Monterey County…”

Officials said the teen is safe and is currently in the care of local authorities in Mexico.”

The two had last been seen in Salinas on Aug. 4.

Officials said a press conference will be scheduled at a later date, which will provide additional information regarding the investigation.
