Two teenagers are dead after a car crash in Moncton involving two vehicles Monday evening.

Codiac RCMP said in a news release officers responded around 7:23 p.m. to a collision between two vehicles at the intersection of Berry Mills Road and Zack Road.

The release said police believe a car travelling with five people in it crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a SUV, which also had five people in it.

A 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man who were in the car both died from their injuries at the scene, RCMP said.

Also from the car, a 14-year-old boy was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries, and a 16-year-old boy was transported to the hospital and is believed to be in critical condition.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old-man, was taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The release said the driver was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation but did not say for what or if any charges had been laid yet.

The five people in the SUV, all from Arkansas, were transported to the hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries, the release said.

The release did not say where the two victims of the crash are from. Autopsies have been scheduled and the investigation continues, the release said.

The intersection where the crash happened is about a 15-minute drive west of downtown Moncton and is right off Trans-Canada Highway exit 446.
