(WSET) — Multiple schools in our area are under lockdown or secure holds on Wednesday.

According to an Amherst County Public Schools spokesperson, multiple school divisions in our area received bomb threats.

ABC13 has confirmed that the following schools were or are on hold, under lockdown or evacuating:

Amherst County Public Schools – secure status has been liftedAltavista High SchoolFranklin County High School – lockdown liftedFranklin County Middle School – lockdown liftedRocky Mount Elementary School – lockdown liftedChristian Heritage Academy – lockdown liftedHeritage High School – secure status has been liftedHeritage Elementary School – secure status has been lifted

Local police are working with schools to investigate potential threats.

Bomb threats, whether false or real, have serious consequences,” said a spokesperson for ACPS. “Not only do they cause widespread fear and anxiety, but they also result in immediate and necessary actions to ensure the safety of everyone in our school. Additionally, threats create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among students, parents, and staff.”
