“I have to ask you something,” he told Navarro. “I’ve admired you now so much for the last couple of years … but why aren’t you independent? How can you still be a Republican?”
Applause and laughter greeted his surprising query.
“I’ll tell you why, because I live in Florida where the primaries are closed, and I want to be able to vote in the primaries and vote against those sons of bitches,” Navarro said. “Make a difference in the primaries.”
Navarro told Entertainment Weekly last week that she didn’t know if she’d ever change affiliations. She appeared to regret a period as a “Republican hack” who would “regurgitate the same party lines that everybody else regurgitated on TV.”
As for flak from some conservatives that she isn’t a true Republican, Navarro, who supported Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, snapped back to EW: “I’d argue that anybody who espouses the same views as Donald Trump isn’t much of a traditional Republican. I’m not going to be lectured to about what a Republican is or isn’t.”
