Iranian intelligence services are targeting US military bases in Germany, including Ramstein and Spangdahlem, amid concerns over potential covert attacks linked to the Iran conflict, German news outlet WirtschaftsWoche reported on Thursday.
Israel warned US and German partners three weeks ago of a potential threat, with concern focused on bases supporting US military operations and logistics linked to the conflict with Iran, the report said, citing several unnamed Western intelligence officials.
The German defense ministry and the US forces in Germany were not immediately available for comment.
On Saturday, The New York Times reported that Israel had warned Germany of an increased risk of attacks against US military bases on its territory, particularly Ramstein Air Base and Spangdahlem Air Base.
Both Ramstein and Spangdahlem are used by NATO air forces, with the former serving as the headquarters for the United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa and NATO Allied Air Command.
The intelligence assessments also included concerns about possible drone attacks, but did not point to a specific time or target.
