A person was shot during an encounter with federal immigration agents in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon, according to the New York Police Department.
Around 4 p.m., agents with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations encountered a person they were targeting, and they fired shots, according to preliminary information from a law enforcement source.
The person injured in the shooting was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was conscious, police said. The injury was not considered life-threatening, according to the law enforcement source.
Two agents were also injured in the encounter, according to the source, and they are being treated at a local hospital.
CNN has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.
NYPD were not involved in the incident and were not at the scene of the shooting, the department said in a statement on X.
