PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man was shot and killed by police after a confrontation on the Ben Franklin Parkway late Friday morning in Center City Philadelphia.
The situation began shortly after 11 a.m. in the area of 21st and the Parkway.

Law enforcement sources told Action News there was a report of a gun being fired indiscriminately.
When officers arrived on scene, they shut down the area and attempted to negotiate as the man continued to point the gun at police, sources said.
The situation escalated, and the man was shot by two officers after he fired at police, according to sources.
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said at a news conference it was a SEPTA police officer and a Philadelphia police officer who fired at the man.
Police rushed the man to Jefferson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s gun, a revolver, could be seen on the ground after the shooting.

Video from Chopper 6 showed multiple police and SWAT officers on the scene.
The Parkway is shut down in the area.
