MADISON, Wis. — Republican U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden said the war in Iran is necessary, even as he acknowledged the conflict could make it more difficult for Republicans to retain control of Congress.
Van Orden, who is seeking to defend Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District seat in a rematch, discussed the conflict during an interview with Elly Laliberte, host of “For the Record.” The race is among a small number of congressional contests that could help determine control of the U.S. House.

“It would be much easier for Republicans to maintain the House and the Senate if we weren’t involved in this conflict in Iran,” Van Orden said. “But at some point, we have to deal with this issue that’s been going on for a half-century.”
When asked whether the conflict was necessary, Van Orden said he believes it is.
The interview airs at 10:30 a.m. Sunday on “For the Record.” Laliberte also interviewed Democratic challenger Rebecca Cooke last week.
