ROSEMONT, Calif. —
A man’s body found in Sacramento County last week was identified as a hit-and-run victim following an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP identified the man as 48-year-old William Allen Spears, Jr., of Sacramento. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Metro Fire personnel.
“My father died when I was really young, and William stepped in, and he took care of the family,” said Candace Roberts, Spears’ sister. “He became a construction worker, and became the man of the house when I was born.”
Roberts is one of five siblings, and Spears was the oldest.
“How could anyone actually see what was happening? All these people passing by, they were all going home. They all made it home that night. Not my brother,” Roberts said.
CHP said a vehicle struck a pedestrian on Oct. 8 around 10:30 p.m. on Folsom Boulevard, west of Norcade Circle in the Rosemont area.
“No one stopped on the road. This community, this road is so dark,” Roberts said.
The pedestrian was in the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle.
CHP said the driver did not stop after the crash or report it to law enforcement and drove away from the scene. The suspect vehicle and driver have not yet been identified.
“I am hoping that they find who did this because the way you killed my brother, the way you murdered him, he didn’t deserve that,” Roberts said.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information that could lead to the identity of the suspected driver or vehicle is urged to reach out to the East Sacramento CHP Area office. The East Sacramento office can be contact through email at 260POP@chp.ca.gov.
