Kawhi Leonard is back, and it is immaculate. Actually seeing Leonard return to the court with a Raptors jersey on was a spiritual experience. He was everything the team needed him to be and while still acclimating with his teammates. He jacked up eight threes in his 17 minutes, hitting four of them and never hesitating when presented with an inch of space. On the very first defensive possession he stole the ball, and was excellent defending on ball, off ball, in double teams, transition, you name it. Every decision he made was with intention, on a post up he caught the ball, and immediately turned and shot with no dribble, no hesitation, just catch, and shoot. His presence seemed to calm the rest of the team, everyone else seemed to play with more confidence just by the mere fact that Leonard was on the floor with them. While he sat the second half, you could constantly see him chatting with his teammates, giving them tips and advice, one of the most underrated benefits he’ll bring this season. I have an inkling that this season is going to be very fun. RJ Barrett

How strong is RJ Barrett??? He was a bully tonight, just bashing and throwing guys to the ground in the post with pure strength. It was truly ridiculous. While technically all of the Knicks lineups were their bench (no starters played), Barrett is going to have incredible chances to dominate bench lineups all season Scottie Barnes

Truly dominant offensive performance, working in the mid range and getting to the rim efficiently. In the first quarter alone he scored 15 of the Raptors 42 points on a variety of jumpers: pull ups, step backs, and fading turnarounds. Outside of his scoring, there was one play that stood out to me that represented the things he does every night that don’t show up in the box score. On a defensive possession, Quickley’s man beat him from the corner, and Barnes was quick to help, pointing at his man on the wing asking Quickley to rotate over. When he noticed Quickley wasn’t going, and the pass was made, Barnes raced out back to his own man, extending to contest the shot and forcing the miss. It’s a little thing that just shows how much ground he covers for this team.He relied a lot on his mid range jump shot but when it’s falling like that, why wouldn’t you? Jakob Poeltl

Continues to look healthy, moving well around the floor, not as much impact, but strong movement. The Raptors seem intent on finding ways to keep him and CMB on the court together and it worked well tonight. Immanuel Quickley

Didn’t love IQ’s play, some silly decisions in transition, pulling up for a three when he should have passed, or throwing a lob to Scottie Barnes when he should have taken it himself. There were a couple defensive miscues, including gambling for a steal that led to a wide open three for his man. Still, a couple of nice drives that led to open threes, lots of room to improve with Leonard. Kyle Anderson

If you didn’t understand why Anderson is called ‘Slo-Mo’ he showed exactly why tonight. He really just plays at his own pace, always controlled, steady, high IQ basketball. Even in garbage time he ran the pick n’ roll with Jackson-Davis and beautifully threaded the pass through a crowd of hands for an and-one. He never allows anyone to speed him up and will be a great 10th man this season. Trayce Jackson-Davis

Garbage time warrior. Ended the game with a big transition slam followed by a volleyball spike on the other end. Solid third string big man, and quickly replaced Jamarion Sharp to close out the fourth quarter. Tyson Degenhart

Quick fire corner three was really his only contribution in garbage time, missed a couple other attempts, but the one that fell was fun to see. Collin Murray-Boyles

When Collin Murray-Boyles said that he had lost weight by running a bunch this past summer, there was a ton of excitement about his potential explosiveness and bounce. On the flip side there was concern about his ability to match up with the bigs of the league. Tonight should dispel any of those worries. Murray-Boyles is just as strong, but is faster and can jump higher now, he was all over the court tonight. Throwing down powerful slams, frantic defense, and to top it off, he drilled two three pointers, one of which was a pull up three off the dribble. Incredible, versatile game from the sophomore. Oh, also, he didn’t miss a shot. Allen Graves

His first three was a little short, his second three was a little long, his fourth three? That one was just right. After that his shot wasn’t really falling again, call it rookie nerves or whatever but he showed his hustle, defensive instincts and was active on the glass throughout. Jamarion Sharp

I don’t know if Key will ever get a real NBA opportunity, but he can shoot the skin off of the basketball. Like he’s a real shooter, and I love to see that it’s translating in the NBA (even just the preseason) so far. He’s a bit undersized but had some clever cuts as well to get open or draw defenders through the paint. One of my favourite players with the Raptors 905 last season and very excited to see how he’ll continue to develop. Malachi Smith

Shead hit a floater! It was a nice little downhill, euro step, deceleration floater and it was beautiful. Only took two shots tonight, I would have liked to see a couple more since it’s preseason, but he got to the line, worked on defense, and made solid reads on offense. Jaden Bradley

Hit a beautiful lil step back middy through a foul in the fourth quarter. Was some of the most impressive handles he’s shown yet. He’s certainly looked a lot better in preseason than the Summer League. Nimari Burnett

Walter is doing everything he was doing last year. His defense has been excellent, disruptive, annoying. Tonight was one of his better shooting performances, he was decisive and quick to fire away. I’m slightly concerned by his lack of offensive development, but he will still be a crucial 3 and D guy this season. Alijah Martin

Got some early minutes, and while he didn’t score much, his defense was really good. He was disruptive, and above all, really damn annoying. He just makes guys work the entire time he’s guarding. Finding consistency with the jumpshot will go a long way in his first season on a guaranteed contract. Darko Rajakovic

Darko Rajakovic
I loved the lineups Rajakovic threw out there, and I think he handled Leonard’s first game really well. There was a lineup with Shead, Walter, Barnes, Graves, and Murray-Boyles that was just tearing the Knicks apart on defense. I noticed that Barnes got both of the end of quarter shots when he and Leonard shared the floor, which was an interesting wrinkle. Towards the second half I was glad Rajakovic let some of the bench rotation continue to work before throwing in the third stringers in the fourth quarter.
