A Calgary woman is facing charges after an elderly woman was randomly struck in the face while walking downtown earlier this month.

Calgary police say the assault happened around 4:50 p.m. on Oct. 6 near 1 Street and 15 Avenue SE.

The 92-year-old victim was walking with a friend when an unknown woman approached the pair and allegedly punched her in the face before fleeing.

The victim returned home and later contacted police.. Police say she sustained minor injuries.

Investigators identified a suspect and determined the victim and accused did not know each other. Police believe the attack was unprovoked.

“The randomness of this assault against an elderly woman who was out enjoying an afternoon walk is extremely concerning,” said CPS Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky. “Everyone deserves to feel safe in our city.”

The suspect was arrested in downtown Calgary on Saturday.

Juliana Isabella Bodor, 59, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of assault. She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact them at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
