Durham police have identified a suspect in the 2025 murder of a 47-year-old man in Pickering, Ont., and they believe he is not in the country.

Police gave an update on Wednesday on their investigation into the death of 47-year-old Joshua Ibbitson of Newmarket.

Police said Ibbitson was found dead in a vehicle in the area of Fairport and Third Concession Roads on April 30, 2025.

An autopsy later determined that his death was the result of a homicide. The cause has not been disclosed.

In a news release on Wednesday, police announced that they have identified a suspect.

Kane Booth, a 25-year-old man from Pickering, is wanted for first-degree murder. A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest.

He is described as a white male, five-foot-11 with a slim build. He has light brown hair and brown eyes.

Police told CP24 that Booth left Canada “a couple of days” after the homicide. They do not currently know where he may be.

They added that he and the victim knew each other. Police also said he had prior interactions with officers.
