Ontario Provincial Police say charges have been laid against a transport truck driver and the Edmonton-based company he works for after a stop on Sunday on Highway 17, east of Mattawa.
In a Wednesday news release, OPP said the driver’s paper records indicated the trip from Kenora to North Bay had been completed in just 12 hours. However, the 1566 km trip along Highway 17 is shown to take nearly 17 hours in Google Maps.
The driver is charged with offences including speeding, driving a vehicle without a working speed-limiting system, exceeding 13 hours driving time in a day, falsifying or defacing a record or document, and failing to furnish information.
Police did not name the Edmonton-based carrier. But, police said it faces three charges including permitting the operation of a vehicle not equipped with a working speed-limiting system or an electronic logging device.
