A man and a child broke into a pub and “flooded” the cellar while stealing copper pipes, a landlord has said.
Jamie Thomas, the new owner of the Ernehale Pub in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, said what the pair took was worth about £20 in scrap, but the repairs would cost him thousands.
The 30-year-old, who is renovating the former Wetherspoons pub, said the break-in at about 19:30 BST on Sunday was stressful, but he would “get on” with the work needed to reopen in November as planned.
Nottinghamshire Police said a burglary investigation was under way and no arrests had been made.
CCTV footage appears to show a man and a child scaling the wall of the pub on Sunday evening.
Thomas said the pair managed to get in and take some copper pipes but failed to take the water tank as it was too heavy.
They instead took some lanterns from the beer garden, he added.
