MS NOW anchor Lawrence O’Donnell highlighted one of the most “utterly insane, breathtakingly stupid things” President Donald Trump has ever said on Thursday’s (October 15) edition of The Last Word.
The host was referring to a comment the president made to reporters about the ongoing war in Iran. “It’s going to end very soon, as soon as I want it to end, it will end,” Trump said.
O’Donnell was stunned by Trump’s remark, noting that it implied the president could end the war at any time yet was letting it persist. “No wartime president of the United States has ever said, ‘As soon as I want the war to end, it will end,'” the veteran news reporter stated, per The Huffington Post.
“And so what Donald Trump told American voters last night is, ‘I don’t want the war to end. I don’t want the war to end today. I don’t want the war to end tomorrow. I don’t want the war to end next week,'” O’Donnell continued. “Donald Trump is saying, ‘It’s my war, and it will end whenever I want it to end. And because I’m not out there fighting it myself, I do not want it to end.'”

The host declared, “It is the stupidest statement a wartime president could ever make, especially to voters who are overwhelmingly opposed to Donald Trump’s war.”
O’Donnell went on to highlight that even a Fox News poll shows that 66 percent of Republicans are “worried about Donald Trump’s war in Iran” and 29 percent of Republicans say they’re “extremely worried about Donald Trump’s war in Iran.”
“And the Republican who is not worried about Donald Trump’s war in Iran is Donald Trump, who says, ‘As soon as I want it to end, it will end,'” O’Donnell added. “In every campaign appearance, Donald Trump lies to voters and insults them, including insulting their intelligence.”
