Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was blunt in his self-assessment after Thursday night’s loss to the Broncos.
“No way to sugarcoat it: That one sucked. Can’t turn the ball over,” Darnold said immediately upon taking the podium at his post-game press conference.
Darnold threw two interceptions, one in the fourth quarter and one in overtime, of a game the Seahawks would ultimately lose 17-14. He acknowledged afterward that the defense and special teams played well enough to win, and he did not.
“When you have a defense and special teams group that’s playing the way they are for us, for me, I’ve just got to protect the football,” Darnold said. “Dropping back and taking what they give me, I feel like I did a pretty good job of that in the first half, and then late in the second half, those two plays, you can’t have it.”
Darnold knows that the loss was on him.
“It’s BS for me to keep turning the ball over,” Darnold said. “It’s not fair to our defense. It’s not fair to our special teams. It’s not fair to our entire team. I’ve got to be better.”
