Police said it does not appear that the alleged attacker and the victim knew each other

Daniel MachtCecil HannibalROSEVILLE, Calif. —

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 57-year-old woman in Roseville.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Cherie Dodge.

The Roseville Police Department said officers responded to the area of Atlantic Street and South Grant Street for calls of a stabbing around 1 a.m. on Oct. 14.

The area is near the railroad tracks and not far from businesses and new construction in downtown Roseville.

Investigators identified a person of interest and obtained a search warrant for their residence.

On Friday, the Roseville/Rocklin regional SWAT team assisted investigators in serving the search warrant at the home in the 100 block of Buckley Court in Roseville.

The teen suspect was later booked into the Placer County Juvenile Hall on a murder charge, police said.

Police said there are no other suspects and it does not appear that the alleged attacker and the victim knew each other.

“She was an amazing person. She loved everybody. She had the most contagious smile,” said Dodge’s son Carlos Brandt.

Brandt said his mother lived in Roseville for the last 40 years. In recent years he says she suffered from an undiagnosed mental health disorder that eventually led to her living on the streets.

She was a mother of five and had ten grandchildren. Her loved ones created a memorial in her honor on the bench where the family says she was attacked on Wednesday.

“We want people to know that our mom was a person, that her life did matter. That she wasn’t just some homeless lady out there. She had mental issues that she was dealing with, but at the end of the day, (that) doesn’t that make her any less of a person,” said Brandt.
