A man was shot and killed inside a Midtown subway station Saturday afternoon, police said.
The NYPD said the shooting took place around noon at the 53rd Street-Seventh Avenue station, which serves the B, D and E lines. It stemmed from a dispute between two men that police said began on the platform and spilled into the train.
It’s unclear if the shot was fired on the platform or on the train. It’s also unknown whether the victim knew his killer, police said.
The man, who was in his 30s, was shot in the chest and transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival just after 1 p.m., police said. The NYPD said it is looking for a specific “person of interest” in connection with the murder and released a photo on social media.
The MTA referred all questions to the NYPD.
“We have coordinated with the NYPD on the investigation from the earliest minutes — especially to retrieve video from platform and train car cameras,” MTA Chief of Security Michael Kemper said in a statement.
The MTA has said three people were involved in the dispute.
D and E trains in Manhattan are disrupted in both directions while police investigate, according to MTA service alerts.
As of Oct. 11, four people had been shot in the transit system this year, up from two over the same period in 2025, according to statistics from the NYPD.
This is a developing story based on preliminary police information and will be updated.
