The Borrisoleigh to Nenagh Road at Latteragh is set to undergo a €30million realignment

Tipperary County Council has secured all the land needed to realign a dangerous stretch of road in the county, paving the way for a €30 million upgrade of the Borrisoleigh to Nenagh route.

Some 30 landowners have had land compulsorily purchased by the local authority so that the realignment of the road at Latteragh can go ahead.

The major road project will cost a total of €30million, and a preferred contractor for the project has been identified.

The preferred contractor has a two-year programme to complete the project, according to north Tipperary TD Michael Lowry.

The Department of Transport have allocated €20million in funding towards the project, while a further €4million had been allocated to cover the design fees, consultants and landowner compensation.

According to Deputy Lowry, 30 landowners have been served with compulsory purchase orders (CPOs), and as a result of this, all the land required for the road realignment will soon be in the ownership of Tipperary County Council.

“All the affected landowners have received offers of compensation, a number have accepted the offers and have already been paid,” Deputy Lowry added.

The majority of landowners are still in negotiations with valuers and the local authority.

“I am delighted with this project because the Latteragh road is a major piece of vital infrastructure which will be dramatically improved after this investment,” the north Tipperary TD added.

The road has been the scene of a number of accidents over the last number of years, with a multi-vehicle collision on the road two years ago.
