WOODLAND, Calif. —
Federal immigration officials hit a pedestrian in Woodland on Tuesday, videos obtained by KCRA 3 show. Both the Woodland Police Department and the U.S. House congressman who represents the area are also acknowledging the situation.
The video shows a person, later identified as Antonio Moreida, approaching a black, unmarked SUV in the middle of the street before it drove away. Moreida can be seen walking after the SUV, which went off-frame. Seconds later, a different black SUV can be seen driving toward Moreida, hitting him and pushing him backwards. The pedestrian was left on the ground, upright.
Moreida, shared with KCRA 3 a phone recording of his GoPro, which also recorded the collision. (Watch that video below.)
Moreida said he came to the neighborhood after seeing reports of ICE activity there.
NorCal Resist, a local advocacy group, has been sharing those updates on social media. Community observers then come out to verify whether federal immigration agents are in the area.
“They ended up pulling out into the street, trying to take off, as I was on their driver’s side recording them,” Moreida said. “So they essentially pushed me into the street, and so I just kept walking down the street recording them, reading out their license plate, and before I knew it, that Tahoe that had taken off down the street, I could hear it coming at me, and it just ran straight into me.”
Woodland police acknowledged the incident happened between federal immigration and a pedestrian around 9:38 a.m. near Locust and Clover streets. The agency said its officers contacted the people involved and is investigating what led to the situation.
Police said the Moreida had minor injuries.
KCRA 3 reached out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for comment and has not yet heard back.
The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office said it could not comment at this time as the matter is under active investigation by Woodland police.
U.S. House Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents the Woodland area, issued the following statement.
“ICE cannot continue to terrorize our communities. I am in communication with local law enforcement, who have informed me that ICE was operating the vehicle in question and that an investigation is underway. No one is above the law. ICE’s actions have contributed to growing distrust and fear within our communities, making transparency and accountability all the more critical. Members of our community need to feel safe.”
Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry said on social media, “Our community deserves answers and accountability.”
