NEW YORK (WABC) — A driver died at the hospital after he was found shot on the upper level of the George Washington Bridge on Tuesday night, according to police sources.
Port Authority police officers responded to reports of a one-vehicle crash on the westbound upper level of the bridge closer to the New Jersey side just after 7 p.m., according to a Port Authority spokesperson.
The officers found the driver with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim, a male, according to police sources, was taken to Englewood Medical Center, where he later died.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation snarled traffic in both directions.
The westbound upper level of the bridge remained closed as of Tuesday night. One lane on the upper roadway headed eastbound into the city was closed, but has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
