An open letter from McGill law students includes allegations that convicted murderer Jeffrey George Ewert behaved inappropriately toward female classmates and displayed concerning social media activity.

The letter, dated Oct. 19, calls for Ewert to remain excluded from campus while the university develops safeguards for his possible return. Ewert, who began taking law courses in August, has not been on campus since early October, according to an Oct. 16 statement from the university.

By Friday morning, 71 people had signed the letter, up from 40 the previous day, according to Nick Trehan, a first-year McGill law student involved in preparing it.
