Results are unofficial until each clerk certifies them, usually within a few days. New councils take office Nov. 15.
We’ll have more on the results and what’s ahead for the new councils tomorrow.
8:19 p.m.
Results for Owen Sound are in: Richard Thomas is your new mayor. We’ll be back very shortly with more.
8:14 p.m.
While we wait…
Some races were over before tonight.
Four mayors were acclaimed: Kevin Eccles in West Grey, Sue Carleton in Georgian Bluffs, Steve Hammell in Arran-Elderslie and Chris Peabody in Brockton.
Seven municipalities had only one candidate for deputy mayor: Owen Sound, Meaford, Southgate, Georgian Bluffs, Arran-Elderslie, Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss.
The most crowded race per seat is on the Bruce Peninsula.
If you’re voting in Owen Sound, you might have thought you were most spoiled for choice. Owen Sound has the biggest fields overall: 21 candidates for seven council seats and six for mayor, the largest mayoral race in the two counties.
But in South Bruce Peninsula, 12 candidates are running for just three council seats — four candidates for every seat available.
Grey Highlands has 14 candidates for five council seats.
8:10 p.m.
No results yet… departing Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy and acclaimed Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody are on CFOS with Claire McCormack right now, if you’re looking for some live commentary.
7:55 p.m.
If you’ve ever scrutineered or worked a paper ballots election, the online/phone ballots system would feel entirely foreign. We are now departing the waiting room…
And heading into chambers, where no phones are allowed. At some point in the very near future, we hope, your election results will appear on a screen in that room.
7:42 p.m.
After some initial confusion at the door, Owen Sound Current is at City Hall awaiting the opening of Council Chambers for the results reveal.
Though the City Clerk confirmed by email Thursday that Council Chamber doors would open at 7:45 p.m. today for observers, security at the door doesn’t appear to have received the memo. They initially denied entry, stating that chambers won’t open until 8:15 p.m.
If you’re looking for an Election Watch Party, it’s not happening at City Hall. Head to Harmony Centre.
