Lima, OH (WLIO) – — Local Democrats and members of the United Auto Workers spoke out against Ohio Sen. Jon Husted on Monday ahead of his speech at the Allen County Republican BBQ, holding a rally in downtown Lima.
Jeff Givan, who is running against Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman for the 78th District, and George Jeffries from the local UAW CAP Council, criticized Husted for what they said was his support of data centers and what they said was his record of voting for tariffs, which increased prices of retail items, and on the war with Iran, which has led to increased diesel and gas prices.
“That’s going to continue going up. It’s going to only go up. It’s not going to go down any time soon. And just think of what that’s doing to our school districts and the bussing of these students, especially since Matt Huffman has pulled some of that funding out. So this is going to be another whammy to the school districts,” says Jeff Givan, Democratic Candidate for 78th Ohio House District.
“His policies and stuff are going to add to our health care costs, our energy costs, our housing costs. And in turn that petroleum is used to make the plastic parts and stuff for our cars, our tires and everything. All that’s going to go up. We just can’t afford the policies he’s supporting,” says George Jeffries, Chair of the UAW Lima Troy Area CAP Council.
The group also expressed support for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Sherrod Brown.
