Connor McDavid is red-hot to start the season, and the records are starting to pile up.

With an assist in the first period against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers captain set an NHL record for the longest season-opening assist streak.

McDavid now has at least one assist in each of Edmonton’s first 13 games this season, which breaks the previous record of 12 season-opening games held by Wayne Gretzky (1982-83), Ken Linseman (1985-86) and Sebastian Aho (2018-19).

Wednesday’s apple brought McDavid’s point total to a ridiculous 35 points (12 goals, 27 assists) in just 13 games.

He also has 33 points in the month of October, which tied Gretzky (33 in 1986) for the third-most points in a single October in NHL history.

McDavid’s hot start has helped the Oilers to an 8-2-2 start this season.
