WASHINGTON (TNND) — Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy said that President Donald Trump is planning to restart the Iran war after the midterm elections and the plan is “insane.”
“Trump is reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election,” Murphy wrote in a post on X. “Some of us have been briefed on the war plan. And while I cannot disclose any details, I can say this: the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.”
Earlier this week, Trump signaled the Iran war could come to an end soon amid reports that the Pentagon is preparing for a strike on Iran after the midterm elections.
The Pentagon is reportedly reinforcing missile defenses, repositioning troops and preparing additional warships and aircraft as Trump considers renewed strikes going after Iran’s nuclear facilities and military infrastructure.
Attached to Murphy’s post was a video of him speaking at the Middle East Institute.
“In one of these briefings we did get a chance to have a fairly detailed conversation about what the war plan would be if we restarted military operations,” he said.
Murphy said that there have been some reports that it would be a “short duration plan.”
“Their plan is insane,” he said in the video. “It will lead to devastating escalation and the likely destruction of our commitment to the rule of law.”
