In a written statement to the University of Delaware community, school president Laura Carlson said she was grateful to Newark Police, UD Police and first responders from across the county and state for their quick response, which she says provided on-scene life-saving care.

Carlson said the school would provide updates via the Campus Alerts page.

She also said resources would be made available to students and community members who may have witness the violence.

It’s the 31st mass shooting event in Delaware, and the first in Newark, since the start of 2013, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

They define a mass shooting as 4 or more people being injured in a single event, not including the shooter.

20 of those were in Wilmington, 5 in Dover, 2 in the Prices Corner area, and 1 each in Harrington, Bear, Milford, and now Newark.
