Manchester City player ratings from a 3-2 Champions League win over RB Leipzig that saw them win their first game in fourDonnarumma

Manchester City won their first game in four with a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Enzo Maresca made four changes from the Premier League defeat to Brighton at the weekend and was ultimately rewarded with an important win.

An own goal gave them a 1-0 lead at half-time but RB Leipzig came flying out for the second half and Gianluigi Donnarumma was embarrassed at his near post. Enzo Fernandez gave City the lead back but they immediately conceded an equaliser as Antonio Nusa scored.

Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal of the game but also missed a number of chances to wrap the win up and RB Leipzig rattled the bar from a free-kick that Donnarumma should have got something on. However, the Blues just about did enough to claim the victory.

Here are your player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.

Donnarumma: A few good saves could not undo the damage of being beaten at his near post after nearly dropping one in. 4

Nunes: Some useful interceptions and he linked up well with Foden, although he still had his wild moments in defence. 6

Khusanov: Speaking of wild, one hack in the box that he got away with but was otherwise okay. 6

Guehi: Solid enough on his return to the team, carrying the ball forward and winning fouls to gain territory. 6

O’Reilly: A good run and cross brought the first goal, although he needed to do better for the first Leipzig equaliser. 6

Anderson: Lots of jumping play without much control and he missed a very good chance at 2-2 before a very good run for the winner. 6

Fernandez: Another game where he was part of a midfield that didn’t work, although he took his header well. 6

Cherki: Some good, some bad. He could have used the ball better in the final third but still contributed more than most. 7

Ndiaye: A bit like Cherki, he drifted in and out of usefulness but crossed for Fernandez and had enough decent moments to be satisfied. 6

Foden: One effort that went just wide and he had a part in Fernandez’s goal but will feel like he could have done better. 6

Haaland: A lot of throwing his arms up in the air before that one moment of quality late on to win the game. 6
