The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 will have medal events in eight weight categories each for men and women in the senior division.
There will also be competitions for junior and youth lifters, with India taking part across categories.
Apart from Mirabai, Commonwealth Games silver medallist Bindyarani Devi will be another strong contender for India in the 58kg category.
She has won a gold and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in the past.
In the men’s senior section, N Ajith (71kg) and Ajay Singh (88kg) will be at the forefront of India’s challenge.
The 2023 edition of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships saw N Ajith and Ajay Singh win gold medals in the 73kg and 81kg category, respectively.
The Ahmedabad meet also doubles up as a qualifying event for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with the winners of each senior category securing a berth to next year’s showpiece.
