A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a mail carrier was assaulted while on a delivery route in southwest Winnipeg Thursday afternoon.
Just before 1:30 p.m., the mail carrier was confronted and attacked by a resident in the Waverley Heights neighbourhood, police said in a Saturday news release.
Without provocation, the resident began berating the mail carrier, who was then shoved to the ground and further assaulted, according to police.
The resident also damaged the mail carrier’s cellphone while attempting to steal it, police said.
A delivery driver intervened and stopped the attack before police were called. The carrier suffered minor injuries and did not require medical help, police said.
The 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and mischief to property under $5,000.
