A 28-year-old man who was charged in connection with two knifepoint robberies in Winnipeg last month was arrested again on Saturday after a security guard was nearly stabbed during an attempted robbery at a Stafford Street grocery store.
A man attempted to leave the No Frills store on Stafford Street with meat products without paying around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Winnipeg Police said in a Sunday news release.
When a security guard tried to stop him, police said the man tried to stab the guard.
Police said the guard was punched before the man fled empty-handed.
At 6 p.m., he was arrested near Osborne Street, between River Avenue and Donald Street, police said. Officers seized a knife, the release said.
Police allege the man was “uncooperative and belligerent” during his arrest.
A 28-year-old man was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, obstruction of a peace office and four counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Last month, the same man was arrested in connection with two knifepoint robberies at a fast-food restaurant and beer vendor in St. Vital.
He was charged with two counts of robbery, possession of a weapon, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Winnipeg police said in an email to CBC News that the service was “opposed to his release” after the two July incidents.
