What a dominant performance from the minor premiers!

Fowler-Nembhard super shot
Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard doesn’t put the long bombs up often! But the crowd absolutely loves it when she does. And here they go wild for the Jamaican import.
SCORE: Fever lead77 – 45

Wilkinson super shot
It’s the Fever’s first super shot of the game!
They haven’t needed to even look at the two pointers because they had such a big lead early on with just regular goals. It comes at the hands of Olivia Wilkinson.
SCORE: Fever lead75 – 45

Swifts changes
The Swifts have made a couple of changes in this final quarter, probably looking ahead to next week now and what they need to build on. One of them is bringing Nweke on to partner with Fawns once again. It speaks to the disappointing performance from Housby — typically a 60-minute player — that Akle doesn’t want to leave her on. Also that she’s trying to get Nweke back on track before the prelim.

Will the Swifts be out of finals in straight sets?
This is phenomenal. Given Swifts recent form I didn’t expect them to win. However this is not what you want to see in a major semi!
Going to be incredibly hard for swifts to have a 180 mindset shift in a week ahead of Vixens match.
– Maddawg
Isn’t it just! The drop off from this Swifts team in the back half of the season needs to be studied. Why has their confidence taken such a hit? At least they’ll have home crowd advantage in Sydney for the preliminary final. But what sort of mental state they’ll be in for that match is anyone’s guess. The Vixens will be on a high after their win against the Thunderbirds earlier today. Based on this performance it looks as if the Swifts could be out of finals in straight sets.

Wilkinson is on
21-year-old young gun Olivia Wilkinson is the last member of the Fever’s game-day 10 to hit the court. Dan Ryan sends her out to start this final quarter. He’s now rotated through his entire squad.
Wilkinson along with the Swifts’ Grace Whyte and Freddie Schneideman has been named in the Australian U21s squad set to contest for a spot on the plane to the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar this September. Exciting to see the next generation of Diamonds appearing in this Super Netball semifinal.
22m agoSun 20 Jul 2025 at 7:13am3/4T: Fever lead 63-35
Despite a tighter quarter won by the Fever 17-15, there’s a huge 28-goal deficit at the final break of this major semifinal. The Swifts will be very disappointed with this result. Even the packed crowd in Perth would have been hoping for a more entertaining contest. Think it’s safe to say that the Fever are our first team through to the 2025 Super Netball grand final.

Fawns super shot
Finally Sophie Fawns converts a two pointer with 53 seconds left.

Housby super shot
Three in a row for the English goal attack with a little more than a minute and a half to go in this third quarter.
SCORE: Fever lead 61-32

Housby super shot
This is what the Swifts need. The experienced shooter is starting to stand up.
SCORE: Fever lead 60-30

Housby super shot
Housby is back on court in goal attack, as the Swifts shift Fawns to GS and aim to play a moving circle for the third super shot period. Housby makes a statement coming back on with a long bomb, showing her coach she wants to be out there and can do the job.
SCORE: Fever lead 59-28

Cransberg twin swap
Heading out for the second-half, Dan Ryan made his second change for the game. Swapping Jordan Cransberg at centre for her twin sister Zoe Cransberg.
Zoe is the side’s 11th player and has had plenty of game-time this year, typically coming off the bench late in the game to provide fresh legs.

Coaches have their say
As you can imagine, Fever head coach Dan Ryan is one happy camper. Joining the host broadcast from the sideline Ryan spoke about how impressed he was with his team’s second quarter:
“That second quarter was simply outstanding. The numbers were elite,” Ryan told the host broadcaster.
Meanwhile Briony Akle spoke about the Swifts need to be better defensively. As well as her decision to keep young Sophie Fawns on court at GA instead of Housby,as Nweke rolls on again at GS.
“Our mindset and our energy around winning ball and keeping ball has got to change … At the moment, Fawns is offering a strong drive onto ball.”
42m agoSun 20 Jul 2025 at 6:54amHT stats
It’s been a tough watch so far for anyone outside of WA. Of course the Fever fans will be loving this. But these stats show an alarming difference between the top two teams. Fever are monstering the Swifts defensively — nine gains to one — and also converting those defensive efforts at 89 per cent to keep the scoreboard pressure on the visitors. The Swifts have spent a lot of time standing beside and out of play (10 more penalties). If they can clean up that stat and get into the contest with better footwork and timing, they’ll be more effective in defence.

The Fever fans, affectionately known as the ‘green army’, are on their feet clapping their team off the court at the half-time break.
With 18 seconds to go, Helen Housby missed a chance at a super shot too. So neither of their shooters have been able to execute from the white arc. Housby topped the league in the regular season for super shots with a tally of 60. The two-time premiership player and 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal winner needs to be able to nail those ones in this final. As the experienced player Housby will need to step up in the second half.
Her loss of confidence in this area late in the season has been surprising and is one of the reasons the Swifts have seemed less threatening leading into the finals. The team only scored nine points in total in that second quarter. It’s not up to Super Netball standard. A reminder that the Swifts won eight straight matches to start this season. They were the frontrunners and then totally dropped off the pace. They could be out in straight sets here.
The Fever took advantage of that dip in form from the Swifts to steal the number one spot on the ladder. It is night and day between these two teams right now.

Aryang rebound
Sophie Fawns was put on by the Swifts to try and claw back the score with two-pointers but has missed both her cracks from the white arc so far. Fever goal defence Sunday Aryang is first to the rebound on her second missed attempt. The Fever are just way more urgent jumping on loose ball and it shows. It would be great to see Housby put herself in a better position to take those rebounds if she can.

Fever change
England captain Fran Williams has been injected into the game at GK for the Fever. She’s shared that role with Kadie-Ann Dehaney for a lot of this season. Has provided great impact off the bench. Interesting to see the coaching tactics at play, as Fever coach Dan Ryan responds straight away to Akle’s move to put Fawns on.
And it doesn’t take Fran Williams long to strike with a deflection at the top of the circle to help her team turnover ball.
SCORE: Fever lead 36-20
1h agoSun 20 Jul 2025 at 6:33amSwifts changes
The Swifts take a timeout and it appears Verity Simmons has been cleared to play again after a nasty roll of the ankle. The Swifts have been tracking well in this quarter but with Simmons now into centre, she should provide a bit more zip and punch up the middle. 21-year-old long-range shooter Sophie Fawns is also getting her first minutes in GS, replacing Nweke under the post about two and a half minutes ahead of the next super shot period.
SCORE: Fever lead 31-17

Swifts wearing black armbands
There have been two big losses in the Swifts camp this week, which won’t be helping their emotional state in their biggest game of the 2025 season thus far.

Head coach Briony Akle lost her dear friend and former NSW Netballer Katrina McCaffery a couple of days ago to cancer. Akle had spent much of the week at her bedside. Then Swifts midcourter Allie Smith also lost her grandfather. Very sad news.
